Ladies, Ladies, Ladies, you must all listen. You say you’re a tomboy and that you don’t need pampering. Well, that’s probably true, but… it’s also a shame. I am a huge tomboy, and I love to be pampered. I can either rough it in the woods pursuing the big game animals I am bow hunting, or every now and then treat myself, and for those few hours, live like a princess. Most of you already know that I am a huge bow hunter and that I have traveled all over the United States, Canada and even Africa hunting and hanging out with the guys. BUT I am definitely all girl and love to be pampered.
I haven’t always been pampered. I began pampering myself about two years ago, and boy oh boy has it made a big difference. You see, I have a certain skin condition that I’ve had since birth, where my hands and feet are very calloused, extremely dry, and crack open from time to time. I know, too much information. Ha. So for my whole life I have felt bad and tried to hide my hands and feet from everyone. Because my hands and nails need to look nice for work, I started to get my nails done. Then I took it a step further and I started to get pedicures. Although I still struggle with my dry skin, it has made me feel much more confident. I’m not so shy about someone seeing my awful looking feet, and my hands look better now that I have well-shaped, painted, and manicured nails. It has been a confidence booster for me, making me feel special, girlie, and like a princess. Even though I’ve lived most of my life as a total tomboy, I now have that feeling of: “It‘s okay to be a tomboy, and be girlie too.”
The pampering doesn’t stop there…since I’m a Flight Attendant; I get sore muscles from pulling my luggage with me wherever I go. So about four to five times per year I get a full body massage. Talk about heaven, for those of you who have never done this, it’s a must. You can have a nice easy massage that just relaxes you, or you can have a deep tissue massage that will release toxins in your body, etc. I prefer the relaxing massages the most.
A good way to get started is to tell your husbands, boyfriends, sisters, mothers, and friends that for your birthday or for a Christmas present you would like to get a professional massage as your gift. Do your homework first and find a few in your area, and ask them if you can see their facilities. Find out what their prices are and ask for a brochure so you can think about it. Just checking the places out will help you get ready for the whole experience. This is something special, just for you to enjoy.
So many women out there do not treat themselves nearly enough. They say that they do not have the money, or the kids come first, or it’s a waste of time, etc. But we all need that little bit of attention from time to time to make us feel special, pretty, and important, even though we consider ourselves to be just a tomboy.
What to expect once you make that massage appointment.
Most places have male and female masseuses, so you can pick whom ever you are most comfortable with. Just as it is at the doctor’s office. And remember, this is a job to these people and they are professionals, they do not care if you are skinny, heavy, have wrinkles, cellulite or varicose veins; they just want to give you the best massage they can for your money. It’s just a job to them. I have never been unhappy with the massages I have received.
Upon arriving at the salon or spa, they will ask you to fill out a form informing them of any problem areas on your body such as sore muscles, back pain, and other areas of discomfort. Once they go over that with you, they will take you back to the massage room. The lights are turned down low and relaxing music is played. There you will pick out certain fragranced or non-fragranced oil that they use to massage you with. (Lavender is a good one.) They will leave the room and have you undress to your level of comfort. For most people this will be undressing all the way - leaving only underwear on; leaving your bra on really gets in the way of the back portion of your massage. Then you get under the blanket, on the table, face down, and within the next few minutes they check on you to see if you are ready. When given the “a-okay,” they come back and start your massage. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the personal treatment.
Prices for a one hour massage range from $55.00 to $70.00 per hour and I normally leave them a $10.00 to $15.00 tip depending on how good of a job they have done. Like waitresses, hair dressers, and valets, they work for their tips.
Anyone interested in getting manicures and pedicures, the prices are as follows: Manicures range from $10.00 to $15.00, and pedicures range from $15.00 to $30.00. Tips are between $3.00 and $7.00. I give more to my pedicurist because she really works hard on my feet. I have acrylic nails, so I give $5.00 to the nail specialist since he/she has to fill my nails, not just shape and fill them. (There is an extra step in there.)
So in writing this, I hope some of you ladies will take my advice and start pampering yourselves. You deserve it. Take some of the money you are saving and put it to the side for yourselves, it doesn’t all need to go to the other people in you life, you are special too.
So ladies, don’t waste any more time, you are worth it and it’s a small fee to pay to make you feel so special. Go pamper yourselves today. You won’t regret it, and you’ll have the time of your lives. And remember… “Tomboys are pretty and need pampering too.”
