I grew up in a family that enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, whether it was fishing, camping or hunting. As a kid, I would tag along with my Dad and brother on racoon hunts. However, I didn’t start hunting big game until 1997. Jimmy, my husband, bought me my first rifle. It was a New England Firearms single-shot 243. He told me the reason for the single-shot was so I always kept in mind to make the first shot count.

After two years and with the assistance of my Dad, I got a nice gobbler that spring. In the fall I also connected on my first whitetail with that single-shot 243. This is the point that hunting changed from a desire to an obsession.

In the spring of 2000, I attended my first Women in the Outdoors event at the Springfield, Missouri, Bass Pro Shops. One of the reasons I decided to attend was I wanted to get a woman’s perspective and guidance on hunting. RedHead Pro hunting team member, Brenda Valentine, was there to instruct archery and turkey hunting. I didn’t realize at that time, but it was the beginning of an ongoing mentorship and a great friendship with Brenda. Without the guidance, training and encouragement from family and some other very dear friends I wouldn’t be the hunter I am today.

In the past 10 years I have had the privilege to hunt in nine different states and take numerous animals with rifle, bow, shotgun and muzzleloader. I am honored to be a member of the 7/24 Pro Staff and appreciate the opportunity to share my adventures with you.

Jimmy and I live in Willard, Missouri, along with both of our families. The outdoors has always been part of both our lives and our family’s lives; hopefully we’ll be able to continue to pass on this tradition.
